4 injured in stabbing attack at Shanghai hospital

Beijing, Jul 9 (EFE).- At least four people were stabbed on Saturday in an attack at a Shanghai hospital, state media said.

The Global Times newspaper reported that none of the injured were in a life threatening condition.

When police arrived at the hospital they found the assailant holding a crowd hostage, according to reports. Officers opened fire when he threated to stab some of the hostages.

Videos of armed police officers trying to enter a locked room inside the hospital were published on social media, while others shared videos of dozens of people running from the building.

In recent years, several indiscriminate stabbing attacks have been reported in China, some of them targeting minors in schools or nurseries, often perpetrated by people with mental health problems. EFE
