Merlier wins first Tour de France sprint stage

Pontivy, France, Jun 28 (EFE).- Belgian cyclist Tim Merlier (Alpecin – Fenix) was first to cross the finish line Monday on Stage 3 of the Tour de France, a flat circuit sprint race that was marred with falls throughout the latter half.

His teammate Mathieu van der Poel continues to boast the leader’s yellow jersey after his stage 2 win Sunday and a seventh place finish in the third stage.

During the final stretch of the stage Monday, numerous cyclists fell down, including Tadej Pogacar and Primož Roglic, winner and runner up respectively of the 2020 Tour.

The win is Merlier’s highest achievement so far in his cycling career. EFE
