Juliette Binoche: Actors just turn down roles that objectify women

San Sebastian, Spain, Sep 18 (EFE).- Oscar-winning actress Juliette Binoche said actors should refuse roles in movies that objectify women.

The French artist made the comments at a press conference at the 70th San Sebastian International Film Festival, where her career is due to be recognized with the Donostia Award Sunday.

Binoche, who won the Academy Award for the English Patient, said she was “fortunate” to not have experienced particularly sexist situations in the cinema industry.

“I know there are women who suffer that, perhaps in more stereotypical cinema, but you have to know how to refuse that cinema. I’ve been offered it, American cinema, roles of ‘wife of,’ of objectified women, and I have said no,” she added.

Binoche was joined at the event by director Claire Denis to present their new movie Both Sides of the Blade.EFE
