At least 3 dead, 13 wounded in explosion in Afghan capital

Kabul, Sep 21 (EFE).- At least three people were killed and another 13 wounded on Wednesday in an explosion in a neighborhood in western Kabul, officials said.

The cause of the blast is yet to be identified, and no group has claimed it yet.

“The explosion killed three and wounded 13 others. The cause of the explosion is not identified yet and the investigation team is working on it,” Malavi Fazel Rehman, chief of Police District 3 – where the blast occurred -, told EFE.

Despite the end of the war following the withdrawal of international troops and the victory of the Taliban last year, Afghanistan has continued to suffer from frequent attacks.

The prevalence of security was one of the major claims of the Taliban in the territories under their control during the war with the now-deposed government and international forces.

However, extremist attacks have increased, the largest of them the attack on Kabul airport on Aug.26 last year, which resulted in some 170 deaths.

On Saturday, one person died and two others were wounded in a grenade explosion at a currency market in northern Afghanistan.

A week earlier, at least five people were wounded in two explosions in the west of Kabul in a neighborhood mainly inhabited by the Shia Hazara community.

Since coming to power, the Taliban have launched several operations against the Islamic State in different parts of the country, in a bid to show that their return has brought an end to violence and bloodshed in the country. EFE
