Indian authorities try to rescue child trapped in well for over 90 hours

New Delhi, Jun 14 (EFE).- Indian authorities have been working tirelessly to rescue a 10-year-old boy, who has been trapped for more than 90 hours after falling into a well in the state of Chhattisgarh, in central India.

Young Rahul, who fell into the well playing in his village on Friday, was “stable” and “receptive” as rescue efforts were underway by drilling parallel to the well, according to a tweet by the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) on Tuesday.

The official Twitter handle of the chief minister of Chhattisgarh revealed that in the last few hours Rahul had asked for food through gestures and highlighted “the courage of this innocent child that is stronger than rocks.”

“Around 150 have been deployed here(…) They have worked on it like a mission more than a duty. We are hopeful about successfully rescuing Rahul in good physical condition,” Chhattisgarh Police Superintendent Vijay Agarwal told the local ANI agency late Monday.

The 10-year-old fell into a disused well several meters deep on Friday while playing near his home in the village of Pihrid, in eastern Chhattisgarh.

Rescue operations are taking longer than usual in the area due to the presence of a stone that has complicated the process of drilling a parallel tunnel to pull the youth out, the regional government office reported.

The boy was “very weak, so we are trying to get him out as soon as possible and give the necessary medical care,” District Magistrate Jitendra Shukla told ANI, appearing positive about the progress of the rescue efforts.

A similar incident occurred in India around the end of October in 2019, when two-year-old Sujith Wilson fell into a well about 30 meters deep in the southern part of the country.

The lifeless body of the minor was recovered after a rescue operation of more than 80 hours, which moved the entire country. EFE
