Biden ‘optimistic’ Democrats will retain Senate in midterms

Washington, Nov 4 (EFE).- United States President Joe Biden was “optimistic” Friday that Democrats will retain control of the Senate in next week’s midterm elections.

“I think we’re going to keep the Senate and pick up a seat. I think we have a chance to win in the House… So I’m optimistic. I really am,” Biden told reporters on the tarmac as he departed San Diego, California after a campaign rally.

“We’re going to win this time around,” he told reporters.

On Nov. 8, Americans will go to the polls to renew a third of the Senate, all seats in the House of Representatives, the governments of 36 states, and state legislatures.

Democrats currently hold the majority in the House with 220 seats, while the Senate is split down the middle, with 50 Republicans and 50 Democrats.

The race for the Senate is close, with few percentage differences in the intention to vote for the candidates of four key states: Arizona, Pennsylvania, Georgia and Nevada, according to the latest poll by Siena and The New York Times.

On the other hand, Republicans look to obtain a greater number of seats in the House, according to FiveThirtyEight analysis. EFE
