Shooter kills 1, wounds 3 in university rampage

Frankfurt, Germany, Jan 24 (EFE).- One person was killed in a shooting rampage at the University of Heidelberg on Monday.

The victim died in hospital after being shot at a lecture hall on campus in the city in southwestern Germany, around 90 kilometers south of Frankfurt, the German national press agency dpa reported.

Three other people were also wounded in the shooting, Mannheim police said, adding that the alleged shooter, who was found dead with a self-inflicted gunshot wound, likely acted alone.

Local media reported that the suspected perpetrator was a student at the university, although police have not provided any details of their identity.

Police were still searching the area as part of their investigation but considered the incident to be over, saying in a statement on Twitter that there was no longer a threat. EFE
