Nokia to exit Russian market over invasion of Ukraine

Helsinki, Apr 12 (EFE).- Finnish technology company Nokia announced on Tuesday it was exiting the Russian market over the invasion of Ukraine.

“It has been clear for Nokia since the early days of the invasion of Ukraine that continuing our presence in Russia would not be possible,” the company said in a statement.

“We can now announce we will exit the Russian market.”

In recent weeks, the company had already started suspending deliveries and new business in Russia.

Nokia said that due to humanitarian reasons, the company would ensure the “continued flow of information and access to the internet” to provide Russian people with outside perspectives on what is happening in Ukraine and the world.

“Therefore, as we exit we will aim to provide the necessary support to maintain the networks and are applying for the relevant licenses to enable this support in compliance with current sanctions.

“This is the most responsible course of action for Nokia to take as we exit the Russian market,” the company said.

The Russian market accounted for less than 2% of Nokia net sales in 2021. EFE
