Prince Andrew unlikely to retake public role after Epstein scandal: press

London, Aug 12 (EFE).- The United Kingdom’s Prince Andrew is not likely to return to public life, his brother Prince Charles has said according to sources quoted by British newspaper after an alleged sex abuse victim filed for damages at a United States court.

The Times newspaper cited sources close to Charles, Queen Elizabeth II’s first-born and immediate heir to the throne, as saying the prince sees “no way back to public life” due to the scandal, adding that Andrew’s links to the late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein posed a reputational risk for the UK royals.

The report comes after a US lawsuit accused Andrews of sexually abusing Virginia Roberts Giuffre when she was a minor. Giuffre says she was a victim of Epstein.

Epstein was found dead in his prison cell in 2019 after he was held on charges of sex trafficking of minors. In 2008, he pleaded guilty to procuring a child for prostitution and for soliciting a prostitute.

Andrew has gone to lengths to deny the allegations, including in a BBC interview in 2019.EFE
