US Trade Commission ‘concerned’ over Twitter moves under Musk

Washington, Nov 10 (EFE).- The United States Federal Trade Commission said Thursday that it views the latest developments on Twitter with concern, after several executives in charge of privacy and regulation left the company.

“We are following with great concern the latest actions of Twitter,” a commission spokesman told US media.

“No director or company is above the law and companies must follow our decrees,” the commission added in the statement.

Senior company executives in charge of areas such as moderation, security and compliance with federal regulations resigned from the company last week, after billionaire Elon Musk took control of the tech giant.

In early October, the commission opened an investigation into Musk’s $44 billion purchase of Twitter.

Musk explained Wednesday some of his plans to transform Twitter, including a payment system through the platform and the possibility of offering other financial services such as debit cards and bank accounts.

In May, Twitter settled with the commission in which it paid a $150 million fine for using its users’ personal information to sell advertising. EFE
