Neymar out for 6 to 8 weeks with ankle injury

Paris, Nov 29 (EFE).- Neymar is set to be sidelined for between “six to eight” weeks with a sprained ankle and ligament damage he picked up at Saint-Étienne.

The Paris Saint-Germain star had to be stretchered off the field in the 87th minute of Sunday’s away game after he rolled his left ankle during a challenge by Yvann Maçon. PSG went on to win the Ligue 1 match 1-3.

“Neymar Jr suffered from a sprained left ankle with ligament damage. An unavailability of 6 to 8 weeks is expected,” PSG announced in a statement Monday.

“It’s time to recover,” Neymar posted on Instagram on Sunday. “Unfortunately these setbacks are part of the life of an athlete. Now I have to lift my head and move on. I’ll come back better and stronger”.

This is the latest of a series of severe injuries the Brazilian has struggled with since joining PSG in 2017 for a record 222 million euro.

In February 2018 he fractured the fifth metatarsal of his foot against Marseille and was out for three months.

In January 2019 he suffered the same injury in a cup match against Strasbourg that kept him on the sidelines for three months.

A torn right ankle ligament in a friendly between Brazil and Qatar in June 2019 forced him to miss the Copa America and the start of the season with PSG.

Last season he was out for another five weeks, between February and March, due to an adductor injury after a tackle during a cup match against second-division Caen. EFE
