Palestinian killed in Israeli forces fire in West Bank

Jerusalem, Jul 10 (EFE).- A 33-year-old Palestinian was shot dead by Israeli forces on Monday morning after the man allegedly opened fire on troops at a security checkpoint in the occupied West Bank, official sources said.

Palestinian Health Ministry identified the man as Bilal Ibrahim Qadah and said he was shot near the village of Deir Natham, west of Ramallah.

An Israeli military spokesperson said its troops stopped a suspicious motorist at a checkpoint to question him when the man got out of his car and “acted suspiciously.”

“The assailant got out of his vehicle, threw a grenade and fired at the soldiers. The soldiers responded with live fire and neutralized the assailant,” the spokesperson said.

Israeli soldiers have confiscated a hand-made “Carlo” submachine gun from the Palestinian man, it said.

Last week, Israeli forces carried out a large-scale air and ground military operation in Jenin, a stronghold of the Palestinian militias in the northern occupied West Bank.

The operation resulted in the deaths of at least 12 Palestinians including four minors, and widespread destruction in the city and adjacent refugee camp.

In return, Palestinian militants carried out several attacks against Israeli forces in the West Bank and Israel, killing an Israeli soldier and wounding seven others.

Throughout the year, repeated Israeli operations in Nablus and neighboring towns have caused the deaths of dozens of Palestinians, while attacks by Palestinian militants against Israeli settlers and security forces in the area have also increased.

The Israeli incursion into the Jenin refugee camp involved deadly airstrikes and the deployment of approximately 1,000 soldiers, an unprecedented level of activity in the region in two decades.

The intense fighting in the densely populated refugee camp has caused significant loss of life, extensive property damage, and the destruction of hundreds of homes.

This year has been the deadliest in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict in the last two decades, with nearly 161 Palestinians killed, including militants, civilians, and 27 minors.

Palestinian militant attacks have also resulted in the deaths of 27 Israelis including five minors. EFE
