Verstappen delights home crowd with win at Dutch Grand Prix

Sports Desk, Aug 27 (EFE).- Max Verstappen (Red Bull) cemented his lead at the top of the Formula One World Championship in front of his home crowd in Sunday’s Dutch Grand Prix.

The 25 year old took pole position at the Zandvoort circuit for a third year in a row.

Verstappen, clinched his 11th victory of the year — his 46th in F1 — beating Spaniard Fernando Alonso (Aston Martin) who came second and signed his seventh podium of the season, the 105th in the premier class.

Alonso also set the fastest lap and confirmed his third place in the overall standings.

Fellow Spaniard Carlos Sainz (Ferrari) finished fifth, behind Mexican Sergio Pérez (Red Bull), who was fourth.

In an action packed race — that was red flagged with seven of the 72 laps to go following a torrential downpour — the Dutch double world champion raised his team’s record to 13 consecutive victories. EFE
