Russian denounces Ukrainian attack on bridge connecting Kherson, Crimea

Moscow, June 22 (EFE).- Ukrainian forces bombed a bridge connecting Kherson and Crimea, two regions annexed by Russia, using long-range UK-supplied Storm Shadow missiles, Russian-appointed officials said Thursday.

“At night, a blow was struck on the Chongar bridge. There were no casualties. At the moment, explosive experts are conducting an examination to assess the type of ammunition,” the Russian-appointed head of the Crimea peninsula, Sergey Aksyonov, said on Telegram, urging people to stay calm.

However, Vladimir Saldo, the Moscow-installed governor of the occupied Kherson region said on Telegram that, according to a preliminary assessment, “British Storm Shadow missiles were used.”

The official accused Ukrainian forces of striking bridges near Chongar on the administrative border between Kherson and Crimea.

He said that damage on the road surface of the bridges had led to the suspension of traffic but added that it would be restored in the “very near future.”

“Kyiv terrorists want to intimidate Kherson residents, sow panic among the population, but they will not be able to do this. We are able to repair bridges quickly: the passage of cars will be restored in the very near future,” Saldo said.

Communication between the two regions continues to work and an alternative route for the vehicles is being organized, he added.

He warned that the attack will not go unanswered.

“We have an answer for every step of the enemy,” he said.

Since an attack in October damaged the iconic Kerch bridge linking Crimea and Russia, the peninsula has been the target of frequent drone and missile attacks. EFE
