UN: 6 million Ukrainians in need of humanitarian assistance

Geneva, Apr 19 (EFE).- Over six million Ukrainians are in need of immediate humanitarian assistance, the United Nations warned on Tuesday.

It added that another twelve million Ukrainians will need humanitarian assistance in the near future.

The World Food Programme has mobilized 60,000 tons of food for Ukraine, which will provide assistance to some two million people for two months, the UN agency’s emergency coordinator for Ukraine, Jakob Kern, said.

The UN humanitarian agency has provided aid to 1.7 million people, including 1.4 million in sieged areas, he added.

But many of the most vulnerable, including those trapped in the besieged port city of Mariupol, do not have access to humanitarian aid, Kern warned.

Over 100,000 civilians have not been able to escape Mariupol and are living with no basic goods. EFE
