Tokyo, Jul 4 (efe-epa).- Vissel Kobe was defeated 0-3 at home on Saturday by Sanfrecce Hiroshima as Japan’s J1 League restarted.
The tournament resumed behind closed doors after play was suspended for four months due to the coronavirus pandemic.
One match was held before the season was called off and nine games took place on Saturday in empty stadiums.
The remaining fixtures of the league have been condensed to ensure the competition is completed before the end of the year.
Sanfrecce Hiroshima had been at the top of the table after a 3-0 win against Kashima Antlers in the first round of matches back in February.
The side went 1-0 up on Saturday with a goal in the 35th minute by Brazilian striker Leandro Pereira.
In the second half, the second goal for the away team came in the 48th minute thanks to Yuya Asano with a shot into the left-hand corner of the goal.
The Japanese midfielder was a substitution and came onto the pitch in the 20th minute to replace Yoshifumi Kashiwa.
Andrés Iniesta, who played the full 90 minutes, had several unsuccessful attempts at the Sanfrecce goal before his team took a more defensive stance.
The final goal, also by Pereira, came in the 81st minute after a pass from midfielder Toshihiro Aoyama.
