ENGLISH:

Have you ever asked yourself why being a bilingual person is more beneficial than being a monolingual person? One of the advantages is that speaking two languages brings you more job opportunities. Another very important advantage is that bilinguals have two different perspectives of the world due to their different origins. There is a well-known saying that says: “A different language is a different version of life,” and this is particularly important because when you attend a university there is a diverse atmosphere where you learn about different things every day.

First of all, companies and organizations prefer bilingual students because they need people who can speak two languages fluently. Students are offered internships to gain work experience and employers benefit from this because they could possibly gain a future employee, and therefore this is beneficial for both. Bilinguals also have the opportunity to discover a variety of careers that they would have not considered if not for their capacity to speak two languages.   For instance, a doctor, who is bilingual, can talk to the patient directly, rather than complicating the situation and having to look for a translator. This way the doctor and the patient have a mutual understanding with no language barrier, and there is a feeling of ease in the dialogue.

Secondly, when you are living amongst two languages your mind tends to be more open. This helps you because you are more open-minded than other students who have not lived amongst two worlds, two cultures and two languages. By being open-minded, you are giving yourself the opportunity to learn new things from a different perspective, which is important, not only in language classes, but also in Psychology, Philosophy, Sciences, etc.

In conclusion, knowing two languages is an advantage because you are exposing yourself to more work, professional and cultural opportunities. Enrich your mind and learn another language!
