“Money makes the world go round.” Esta frase en inglés se traduce en español como “el dinero hace que el mundo gire”. Mucha gente lo ve así, especialmente cuando se trata de estudios universitarios. El coste de ir a una universidad comunitaria como Southwest Tennessee Community College es alto, aproximadamente $2,000 por semestre para resientes de TN y $7,000 para los que no lo son. El coste de una universidad pública como la Universidad de Memphis es aproximadamente $4,500 por semestre para residentes de TN y $10,000 para los que no lo son. Aunque estos precios hagan que estudiar en la universidad parezca algo inalcanzable, existen varias fuentes de ayuda financiera que pueden hacer realidad el sueño de asistir a la universidad. Este artículo hablará sobre dos de las oportunidades más beneficiosas para los estudiantes de TN: Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) y TN Promise.
FAFSA (https://fasfa.ed.gov/) es una de las fuentes de ayuda financiera más importantes para estudiantes que desean realizar estudios universitarios. La solicitud es gratis y sólo requiere información sobre los ingresos de la familia del estudiante; no requiere nada especial como ciertas horas de servicio comunitario o escribir un ensayo personal. La solicitud es sencilla y lo mejor de todo es que ya pueden solicitarla y saber si califican para recibirla completa o parcialmente. Al solicitar temprano, pueden descubrir si van a necesitar ayuda adicional.
La segunda fuente de ayuda financiera se llama TN Promise (http://tnpromise.gov). Esta beca es muy importante porque ayuda a financiar carreras de dos años mayormente en universidades comunitarias. TN Promise ayuda a pagar lo que otras becas federales y estatales no cubren.
En conclusión, el dinero no debería ser un impedimento para estudiar en la universidad. The cost to attend a community college like Southwest Tennessee Community College is approximately $2,000 per semester for TN residents and $7,000 for non-residents. The cost for a university like the University of Memphis is approximately $4,500 per semester for TN residents and $10,000 for non-residents. Although these prices make it seem like going to university is an impossible goal, there are several sources of financial aid that can make the dream of going to college a reality. This article will speak of two of the most beneficial forms of financial aid for TN students: the Free Application for Federal Student Aid and TN Promise.
FAFSA (https://fasfa.ed.gov/) is one of the most important sources of financial aid for students seeking an education at the university level. It is free to apply for FAFSA and it only requires some information about the student’s family’s income; there are no big requirements like community service hours or a written essay. The application is easy and the great thing about FAFSA is that you can apply for it now and know whether you qualify to get full or partial financial aid. If you apply early, you can find out whether you will need additional funds.
The second source of financial aid is TN Promise (http://tnpromise.gov). This scholarship is very important because it helps financing two-year degrees mainly in community colleges. TN Promise helps pay for what other federal and state scholarships do not cover.
