13-year-olds finish top 2 in women’s skateboarding

Tokyo, Jul 26 (EFE).- Thirteen-year-olds, Momiji Nishiya from Japan and Brazil’s Rayssa Leal, won the gold and silver medals, respectively, at the first ever women’s street skateboarding event at the Olympics in Tokyo on Monday.

The Japanese teenager scored 15.26 points at Aomi Urban Sports Park, exhibiting great precision and fluidity as she performed her tricks under the hot sun with temperatures above 30 degrees Celsius.

Leal, the youngest Olympian from her country, displayed some of the most aesthetic maneuvers of the day but suffered a fall in her last attempt to “backslide” on the handrail, which may have cost her the gold.

Another Japanese teenager, Funa Nakayama, 16, won bronze to complete the podium.

The biggest disappointment of the day was Japan’s Aori Nishimura, the recent world champion in Rome, who was the favorite in the final. EFE
