West Brom holds Manchester United to 1-1 draw

Sports Desk, Feb 14 (efe-epa).- West Bromwich Albion on Sunday held Manchester United to a 1-1 draw, forcing the Red Devils to lose ground to their cross-town rivals Manchester City in the race for the Premier League.

Having walked out of their previous two Premier League encounters empty-handed, West Brom started strong against United, taking the lead less than two minutes into the game when Senegal’s Mbaye Diagne headed home a cross by English midfielder Conor Gallagher. There were protests from United’s defenders claiming foul play.

Bruno Fernandes drew the Manchester side level with a first-touch volley inside the area before the end of the first half.

Although United reclaimed the second spot in the Premier League from Leicester City, the Red Devils saw the gap behind leader Manchester City increase.

United have collected 46 points from 24 games, while City have pocketed 53 points in 23.

West Bromwich, which has only won two games this season, are second to last with 13 points, two more than last-placed Sheffield United, who play West Ham on Monday.

Earlier in the day, Wolverhampton Wanderers rallied from a 1-0 deficit for a 2-1 win over Southampton.  EFE-EPA
