Ukraine evacuates almost 3,000 citizens from hardest hit areas

Kyiv, Apr 4 (EFE).- The government of Ukraine has evacuated 2,694 people in the last 24 hours from the areas worst hit by the Russian army, especially the southern city of Mariupol, which is facing a serious humanitarian crisis, according to official sources.

The figures were provided by the Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister Iryna Vereshchuk on her Telegram channel regarding the functioning of humanitarian corridors in the country.

Among those evacuated were 469 residents of Mariupol, a port city severely affected by the invasion since almost the beginning of the invasion on Feb.24.

People from this city and nearby Berdyansk had to travel in their own transport to Zaporizhzhia through the humanitarian corridors agreed with the Russians.

Another 1,467 people were evacuated from the cities of Lysychansk, Sievierodonetsk, Rubizhne and Kreminna, all in the eastern Luhansk region, also severely hit by Russian bombing, said Vereshchuk. EFE
