Lewis Hamilton takes 100th F1 career win at Russian GP

Sports Desk, Sep 26 (EFE).- Lewis Hamilton of Mercedes Sunday triumphed at the Russian Grand Prix to become the first Formula One driver to secure his 100th career win.

Hamilton clocked 1:30:41 in Sochi to prevail over McLaren’s Lando Norris who was en route to his maiden F1 career win before the race was turned around amid heavy rain.

“It’s taken a long time to get to 100 and I wasn’t even sure it would come,” Hamilton said.

The seven-time world champion also took over the drivers’ championship, two points ahead of Red Bull’s Max Verstappen, who started from the back of the grid and finished second in Sochi.

Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz completed the podium in third, 62.475 seconds slower than Hamilton.

Daniel Ricciardo of McLaren, who won the Italian Grand Prix earlier this month, came fourth, ahead of Mercedes’ Valtteri Bottas and Alpine Renault’s Fernando Alonso.

Norris was forced to finish sixth after he had spun, before Alfa Romeo’s Kimi Raikkonen, Red Bull’s Sergio Russel and Williams Mercedes’ George Russel, respectively.EFE
