WhatsApp messaging service suffers global outage

Madrid, Oct 25 (EFE).- Instant messaging app WhatsApp suffered an outage on a global scale Tuesday, monitoring sites and users reported.

The website Downdetector showed a surge in outage reports from around 6.54 GMT.

Users suffered issues in sending and receiving messages.

The tag #WhatsAppDown was trending on Twitter globally.

WhatsApp, which together with Instagram and Facebook is owned by Meta, has some 2 billion users worldwide.

In many countries it is more commonly used than messaging services such as SMS.

The app can also be used to make phone and video calls, as well as group chats. EFE
