Democrats Introduce New Bill to Protect Dreamers and TPS Recipients
WASHINGTON (La Opinión) — Con el fin de proteger a millones de inmigrantes perseguidos por las recias políticas migratorias del presidente Donald Trump el partido demócrata acaba de presentar un proyecto de ley que daría a muchos un camino a la ciudadanía.
El proyecto titulado “Ley de Sueños y Promesas 2019” proporcionaría la residencia permanente a millones de jóvenes inmigrantes indocumentados, así como a los inmigrantes cubiertos con el estatus de protección temporal TPS, así como a soñadores amparados con DACA y DED o Partida Forzada Diferida.
La propuesta de ley HR 6 patrocinada por la representante de California Lucille Roybal-Allard y las representantes de Nueva York, Nydia Velázquez e Yvette Clarke ayudaría a despejar el camino hacia la residencia permanente para un estimado de 2.1 millones de inmigrantes traídos a EEUU como niños, más de 300.000 beneficiarios de TPS y miles de liberianos protegidos bajo el amparo de migratorio conocido como Partida Forzada Diferida o DED.
La implementación del proyecto daría a los jóvenes indocumentados que califiquen un estado de protección condicional durante 10 años con la oportunidad de obtener un estado legal permanente.
Para esto los inmigrantes deberán finalizar al menos un curso de dos años o un programa vocacional, completar dos años en el ejército o trabajar durante tres años (siempre que tengan un permiso de autorización de trabajo por lo menos el 75 por ciento de ese tiempo).
La legislación también permitiría a los jóvenes indocumentados solicitar ayuda financiera federal y revocar una política de la era Clinton que penaliza a los estados que otorgan matrícula estatal a estudiantes indocumentados en base a la residencia.
Por su parte a los inmigrantes no se les permitiría aplicar si han sido condenados por delitos punibles con más de un año de prisión o si han sido condenados por tres o más delitos que conllevan sentencias de más de 90 días en la cárcel.

WASHINGTON (CNN) — House Democrats are introducing legislation that would provide a pathway to citizenship for more than one million undocumented immigrants in the United States.
Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Rep. Lucille Roybal-Allard and other House Democrats are unveiling the “Dream and Promise Act,” which would protect undocumented immigrants who came to the US as children, sometimes referred to as “Dreamers,” and immigrants with temporary protected status or deferred enforced departure.
“There should be nothing partisan or political in this legislation,” said Pelosi, who was flanked by House Democrats and immigrants, in introducing the bill. “Protecting Dreamers and TPS and (Deferred Enforced Departure) Americans is about honoring and respecting the family that is the heart of our faith and the heart of who we are as Americans.”
The bill would provide a greater sense of security to a large swath of undocumented immigrants whose fate has been tied up in the courts. Its enactment is unlikely, however, as it would face an uphill battle in the Republican-controlled Senate and President Donald Trump has voiced objections to such programs.
The nearly 700,000 beneficiaries of the Obama-era Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, which shields undocumented immigrants who came to the US as children from deportation, have been in limbo since the Trump administration tried to end the program in 2017, prompting a slew of lawsuits. Federal judges have since kept the program alive, taking issue with the reasoning for the sudden termination of protections.
