Why Gamble with Your Life? Stop Complaining and Mask Up to Fight COVID-19

Vivian Fernández-de-Adamson – LPL

MEMPHIS, TN (LPL) — Many of you may be wondering when is it that we are going to get back to normal and leave behind this nightmare called COVID-19. You may not like my answer, but it is only the truth: the pandemic that we are currently experiencing will not end if we do not act responsibly and conscientiously, if we do not put politics aside and if we do not follow all the guidelines or recommendations from the CDC and the state or local health department. Otherwise, we can only expect more infections and even deaths. Is that what we want? I do not think so.
Unfortunately, there are still people who, being carried away by their stubbornness, misinformation on social media or even political ideals – to oppose President Biden just because he is a Democrat –, refuse to either be vaccinated against COVID-19 or continue to wear the mask in public, even after getting the vaccine.
Is it too hard to get the COVID-19 shot and mask up? Isn’t it easier to take all the preventive measures to slow the spread of this virus that has attacked the whole world? Is it that perhaps a year and a half is not enough?
The COVID-19 vaccines are free and can be obtained in almost every pharmacy (Walgreens, CVS, Kroger, Target, Walmart, Costco, etc.), as well as in clinics and medical centers or from the health department itself. In addition, in the United States we are privileged to have three vaccine options available – Pfizer, Moderna and Janssen (from Johnson & Johnson) –, while other countries in Africa and Latin America are practically begging for more vaccines.
We are already in the middle of the fourth wave of COVID-19, and with a Delta variant that is more lethal and contagious than the others. And not only that, but there is also another variant that is expected to arrive soon and may be worse.
Honestly, I don’t understand. Both the Biden administration and the CDC, along with other health and government authorities, are working hard to fight this coronavirus pandemic. The media have also been reporting unceasingly on the situation. So, it’s time we grabbed the bull by its horns, as the famous saying goes. Enough with so many excuses and stupidities, health is what is at stake … and more so now that classes have started.
As reported by WMC Action News 5, on Monday, August 9, just before noon, the Shelby County Health Department amended its current health directive, requiring the use of masks in all indoor school settings, without any exception.
Faced with this new directive, a group of parents came out to protest in Collierville. I respect everyone’s ideals, but in a matter as delicate as this, I am very sorry, but I call that ignorance and social irresponsibility.
Shelby County Health Department officials say they are willing to help schools do whatever it takes to keep children safe, especially those who cannot get vaccinated.
But this task is not just for the Shelby County Health Department or Shelby County Schools or other school districts; this is something that all of us who live in this community must do if we want to preserve life and out of respect for humanity.
Please get vaccinated against COVID-19, if you haven’t already, and wear the mask. Keep in mind that cases are on the rise again and hospitals are running out of space in their intensive care units.
According to the new data, ICU bed space decreased to 7 percent statewide on Wednesday. From Monday to Tuesday, individuals on ventilators in the state increased by 16 percent.
Statewide COVID-19 cases increased by nearly 1,000 Wednesday for a total of 49,851. The TN Department of Health reported 41 new deaths from Monday to Tuesday, with nearly 2,000 hospitalized.
In the Mid-South, the Shelby County Health Department reported 453 new COVID-19 cases Wednesday morning, bringing the county’s number of active cases to 6,356 with a death toll of 1,754.
The Shelby County Health Commission held a session on Monday, August 9, about the possibility of putting another mask mandate in place. Some businesses have begun to require vaccination cards for entry.

Honestamente, no entiendo.
