London, Jun 26 (EFE).- The southwest London town of Wimbledon is preparing for the historic annual tennis championships that kick off on Monday with the event’s purple and green banners decorating the streets.
Tennis paraphernalia invaded the decorations of cafes and shops, while others offered various products inspired by the tournament.
One of these special products is a wine tasting tournament organized by the French wine store Friarwood, pitting different types of wine against each other starting Monday, the store manager Franck Massaud told Efe.
He placed a large tennis ball next to the Bordeaux wine bottles to stand out among many other normal-sized balls suspended by strings displayed in the shop window.
The Argentine restaurant Chango Empanadas races against time to finish its preparations for the tournament.
They painted silhouettes of emblematic Argentine tennis stars, including Diego Schwartzman and former player Gabriela Sabatini who can already be distinguished on the glass.
“We are very close to the court and usually this area is where the players walk around,” the owner, Bernardo Nevillie told Efe. ”There are not as many people as in the center and they feel a little more sheltered from the people asking for autographs”. EFE
