Wolves edge Leeds 1-0

Sports Desk, Feb 19 (efe-epa).- A tremendous shot by Adama Traore made the difference Friday for Wolverhampton in a 1-0 victory against Leeds United.

With a second straight Premier League win, Neto Espirito Santos’ men improved to 33 points, enough for 11th place, while Marcelo Bielsa’s squad are a point behind in 12th.

Leeds had 59 percent possession and created more chances, as attested by the trio of fine saves Liam Cooper forced from Wolves goalkeeper Rui Patricio.

But the visitors fell victim to the quality of Traore and some bad luck, as the Spaniard’s strike hit the woodwork and then bounced into the net off the back of keeper Illan Meslier, who was charged with an own goal.

Patrick Bamford’s apparent equalizer for Leeds in the 77th minute was disallowed for offside and VAR confirmed the call on the field.

Wolves, who had a run of poor results after star striker Raul Jimenez was sidelined in November by a skull fracture, are unbeaten in their last four matches in the Premier League.

Leeds United have lost two on the trot.

“I am very happy for the team,” Traore told BT Sport. “We worked through the 90 minutes. We know how Leeds play, with intensity. We followed the plan Nuno gave to us, to keep working, keep pushing, and to take our chances. We are happy for back-to-back wins.”

Despite the outcome, Bielsa expressed satisfaction with his team’s performance.

“There were only very few moments when we didn’t dominate. The offensive game we created was sufficient to score at least one goal. In a game of small margins, we were the superior side. We had ten chances from different sources,” the Leeds coach said. EFE apa/dr
