World’s oldest single malt scotch on auction for biodiversity

London, Sep 2 (EFE).- The London auction house Sotheby’s on Thursday displayed the world’s oldest single malt scotch whisky, in decanter number one out of 250, which is scheduled for auction on October 7 in Hong Kong.

The 80-year-old whisky from Glenlivet Distillery was distilled in 1940 and cared for by the Gordon & McPhail family since then, according to the auction house.

G&M bottled the aged liquor in partnership with architect and designer David Adjaye, in a total of 250 decanters.

According to Sotheby’s, proceeds from the sale of decanter number one, valued at an estimated $100,000 to $200,000, will be donated to the Trees for Life nursery, which grows rare, native trees every year to safeguard biodiversity.

“Maturing a single malt Scotch over eight decades is an art, similar in many ways to architecture where you are creating something that needs to stand the test of time,” said Ewen Mackintosh, managing director at G&M.
