PSG extend Pochettino’s contract for 2 years

Paris, Jul 23 (EFE).- Mauricio Pochettino has signed a contract extension that will see him remain coach of Paris Saint-Germain though mid-2023, the Ligue 1 side said Friday.

“I’m really very happy, for myself and also for my staff,” the Argentine said in a statement posted on the PSG website. “It’s very important for us to feel the confidence of the club and we will give our maximum so that the supporters are proud of Paris Saint-Germain.”

“Twenty years ago I was captain of this club and today I am the coach. It’s a dream come true,” the 49-year-old Pochettino said.

The former Tottenham Hotspur boss took charge of PSG in the middle of the 2020-2021 season after the club fired Thomas Tuchel.

Pochettino guided the squad to triumphs in the French super cup and the Coupe de France, though the perennial title-winners had to settle for second place in Ligue 1 behind Lille.

In Champions League, PSG eliminated FC Barcelona and holders Bayern Munich to reach the semifinals.

“We are delighted that Mauricio has reaffirmed his commitment to the Paris Saint-Germain family, club Chairman and CEO Nasser Al-Khelaïfi said. “With Mauricio’s leadership, we’re excited and confident about what the future holds.”
