Wreckage of missing Russian emergency helicopter found

Moscow, Feb 5 (EFE).- The remains of a Mi-8 helicopter belonging to Russia’s emergency ministry were found in Lake Onega, in the northwest of the country, the ministry said on Monday.

The chopper, with three crew members, had disappeared from the radar during a training flight, the ministry said on its Telegram channel.

“The wreckage of the helicopter was found 11 kilometers (7 miles) from the coast at a depth of 50 meters,” it said.

More than 140 rescuers and over 30 vehicles are involved in the underwater rescue operation, the ministry added.

Although the ministry did not provide any information on the state of the crew members, it said the helicopter was piloted by an experienced crew with thousands of flight hours under their belt.

The cause of the accident is yet to be determined. EFE
