Young Activists Organize a March for Vanessa Guillén in Memphis
Jóvenes activistas organizan una marcha por Vanessa Guillén en Memphis
MEMPHIS, TN (LPL) — Idalee Orozco and Jeannie Olvera, two young women from the Memphis community, are inviting the general population to support the march for Vanessa Guillén, which will take place on Saturday, July 11, at 6:00 p.m., at the Overton Park Pavilion Center.
The case of Vanessa Guillén, the army specialist who was brutally murdered at the Fort Hood military base in Texas, has been widely disseminated throughout the country, not only due to the brutality of the circumstances, but also due to the prevailing political climate in the country.
The activists are asking to respect the recommendations of the local health authorities regarding social events: wear a mask, practice social distancing, and respect the local rules of the place of the event.
Attendees will be provided with bottles of water, flyers, and information on Guillén’s case.
Teal will be the color used in the event, as it symbolizes the Awareness of Sexual Assault, and will be visible through ribbons provided at the event.
Among the demands are the closing of the Fort Hood military base, requesting a congressional investigation of the case; raising awareness of sexual assault among Latina women; and other causes that require immediate attention.

Entre las demandas que se leen en el comunicado están la de cerrar la base militar de Fort Hood, pidiendo una investigación por parte del Congreso para el caso; crear conciencia sobre la agresión sexual entre mujeres latinas; y otras causas que requieren de cambios inmediatos.
