Young Dolph Laid to Rest in Memphis

Young Dolph fue enterrado en Memphis

Rapper Young Dolph was laid to rest Tuesday, Nov. 30, in the city he loved and where many loved him back.

A private service was held for Dolph, whose real name was Adolph Robert Thornton Jr., at First Baptist Church — Broad.

The Memphis Police Department sent an email to media about noon saying the funeral was private and media outlets were not being allowed on church property.

“The family of Adolph Robert Thornton Jr. asks that everyone please respect their privacy during this difficult time as they mourn the loss of their loved one,” the email read. “The church has advised MPD that NO MEDIA is allowed on their property. This is not an MPD event. We are only here in a traffic/support capacity.”

Surrounding streets were blocked off, making it difficult to get a sense of how large the crowd was for the service. Rev. Keith Norman is pastor of the church.

Dolph was shot inside Makeda’s Cookies on Airways Boulevard on Nov. 17. No arrests have been made, but a white Mercedes A350 used in the shooting was identified as part of a double shooting in Covington on Nov. 12, Covington police have said.
