Journalist slain in southeastern Mexico

Mexico City, Nov 22 (EFE).- Mexican media outlet AX Noticias said Tuesday that one of its reporters was fatally shot in Xalapa, capital of the Gulf coast state of Veracruz.

Pedro Pablo Kumul is the 19th Mexican journalist slain in 2022, according to the tally kept by the Inter American Press Association (SIP-IAPA).

AX Noticias called on Veracruz Gov. Cuitlahuac Garcia to ensure that the perpetrators are apprehended.

Kumul, who reported for AX Noticias and Es Amor 104.5 HD radio, was killed Monday afternoon while working at his part-time job, driving a taxi.

His girlfriend was with him when the shots were fired, but she escaped unharmed.

The shooters were gone by the time police arrived.

“In AX Multimedias we unite in prayer and accompany with much love and respect the family of our colleague,” the company said in a statement.

Kumul’s death brings to 155 the number of journalists killed in Mexico since 2000. EFE
