Macron calls for new negotiations between Kyiv and Moscow

Bucharest, Jun 15 (EFE).- French president Emmanuel Macron Wednesday called for negotiations between Kyiv and Moscow for peace in Ukraine.

“We want peace, which means that once we reach a ceasefire, discussions must resume,” Macron said.

The French president was on a trip to Romania in which he visited French troops deployed to the Mihail Kogalniceanu military base, near the Black Sea, under the Nato umbrella.

“The Ukrainian president is going to have to negotiate with Russia, and we Europeans will be present at that table to offer security guarantees,” Macron said.

He added that Russia was a “fearsome power” and that the solution was not a war against Russia.

“We Europeans share a continent with Russia, and geography is stubborn. Russia is here today, will be here tomorrow and was here yesterday, ” Macron said.

Macron will continue his trip to Moldova Wednesday, where he will meet with president Maia Sandu.

He did not confirm if he would be traveling to Kyiv with German chancellor Olaf Scholz and Italian prime minister Mario Draghi, as several media have reported. EFE
