Zidane distances himself from rumors of Ronaldo return to Real Madrid

Madrid, Mar 13 (efe-epa).- Zinedine Zidane on Friday emphasized the affection Real Madrid has for former star Cristiano Ronaldo but distanced himself from rumors that the Portuguese striker could make return to the LaLiga giants.

Media speculation about Ronaldo’s future at Juventus has been growing since the Italian side was knocked out of the Champions League last-16 by Porto this week.

“Well, you all know what Cristiano means to Madrid, what he has done, the affection we all have for him, what he did here was magnificent,” Zidane told a press conference ahead of Real Madrid’s league tie with Elche on Saturday.

“But now he is a Juve player and he is doing very well there. I can’t tell you anything. Many things are being said but you have to respect these things,” he added.

Juventus crashed out of the Champions League on Tuesday after they failed to overturn Porto’s away goal advantage from the first-leg.

It was the third time Juve have been dumped from the knockout stages since Ronaldo’s arrival three years ago.

Ronaldo’s future has also been the subject of speculation French media, where he has been linked to defending Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain.

According to Le Parisien, PSG could set its targets on the Portuguese star if the club is unable to agree on a contract extension with Kylian Mbappé.EFE-EPA
