Armed men raid Maastricht art fair, 2 suspects detained

The Hague, Jun 28 (EFE).- Dutch police have arrested two of four people believed to be involved in a suspected armed robbery at a leading art fair in the southern city of Maastricht.

Witnesses told Dutch media that four men, including individuals armed with a gun and an ax, entered the MECC events center, which is hosting The European Fine Art Fair, on Tuesday and tried to break a glass cabinet in an apparent bid to steal diamonds on display at the show.

Footage posted online and later circulated by media appear to show the attempted robbery at the arts fair.

Dutch police said in a statement that two suspects had been detained and that no-one was injured during the robbery.

TEFAF was celebrating its 35th edition between June 24-30, bringing together a total of 241 galleries across the arts sector, from design to antiques. EFE
