Zuckerberg: Musk not serious about fight, ‘time to move on’
New York City, Aug 13 (EFE).- Meta’s Mark Zuckerberg said Sunday that X’s Elon Musk “isn’t serious” about fighting him and that it was time to let the matter go.
“I think we can all agree Elon isn’t serious and it’s time to move on,” Zuckerberg wrote on his social network, Threads, a few days after Musk said that the hypothetical fight could be held in a historic place in Italy.
“If Elon ever gets serious about a real date and official event, he knows how to reach me. Otherwise, time to move on. I’m going to focus on competing with people who take the sport seriously,” Zuckerberg added.
On Friday, Musk claimed to have agreed with the Italian government on an “epic location” in “ancient Rome” for the fight, organized by his and Zuckerberg’s respective foundations, with the proceeds going to “veterans” and “pediatric hospitals in Italy.”
Zuckerberg on Sunday went on to say that Dana White, president of the Ultimate Fighting Championship, “offered to make this a legit competition for charity” but that Musk was not serious about the fight.
“Elon won’t confirm a date, then says he needs surgery, and now asks to do a practice round in my backyard instead,” he added.
Musk had posted screenshots appearing to show that he texted Zuckerberg asking for a “practice bout” in the training octagon on his private property.
“If Elon ever gets serious about a real date and official event, he knows how to reach me,” Zuckerberg concluded on Sunday.
Zuckerberg’s apparent dismissal of the challenge did not seem to sink in with Musk, who in various interactions with followers on X on Sunday called his opponent a “chicken” and said that he “can’t wait to bang on his door tomorrow,” presumably for that “practice bout.”
In June, the two billionaires – clashing over leadership in the digital world – agreed to the fight through a series of social media posts on their respective platforms, but it has never been clear whether they were serious. EFE
