Homeowner’s Dog Electrocuted and Killed by Powerline Left Unattended by MLGW Tree Contractors

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) — A two-day safety standdown is in effect right now ordered by MLGW after a third tree-trimming incident this month ended in tragedy.
An East Memphis homeowner, who didn’t want to be identified, called actions by ABC Professional Tree Trimming crews gross negligence.
She said their actions took the life of her German Shepherd “Ace” who she said died after being electrocuted.
“He would be a year old on Easter and he is my little girl’s dog,” said the homeowner.
The homeowner says that just after 2 p.m. on Tuesday, she let tree trimming crews in her backyard finish cutting down branches.
Shortly after, she left home. But her family didn’t know the trimmers left something behind.
“So my husband came home, let the dogs out. Saw the gate was shut so he knew they were gone and had no idea that there was a live wire in the back of our yard so he threw the ball and the dog just got all cut up in the wire,” she said.
The homeowner shared this video with Action News 5 that shows when the crews were working.
“They jumped, it smoked. They knew it popped, and according to them, they did report it to MLGW,” she said.
In a statement, MLGW told Action News 5 in part, “We are aware of Tuesday’s unfortunate incident that resulted in the loss of a homeowner’s beloved pet after our contracted vendor, ABC Professional Tree Service, accidentally knocked down a live wire. MLGW ordered a safety stand-down with the ABC crews at 7:30 a.m. Wednesday…to reinforce existing safety rules and to ensure procedures are followed to prevent incidents of this nature in the future.”
It’s something this homeowner demands to be evaluated before another casualty occurs.
“My husband could’ve been killed, I could’ve been killed. I have requested that they do not come back on our property,” the homeowner said. “People need to be cautious when these third-party vendors are in your backyard and you don’t know them and you didn’t hire them, you don’t know their skill level and you need to watch them. I mean this could happen to anybody.”
MLGW says ABC is conducting a full investigation into the matter.
In the meantime, MLGW said it will continue using the tree service vendor.

Una propietaria de una vivienda en East Memphis que no quiso ser identificado, calificó las acciones de los equipos de ABC Professional Tree Trimming como negligencia grave.
Ella dijo que sus acciones le quitaron la vida a su pastor alemán “Ace”, quien, según ella, murió después de ser electrocutado.
“Cumpliría un año en Semana Santa y es el perro de mi pequeña hija”, dijo la dueña de la casa.
La dueña de la casa dice que poco después de las 2 p.m. El martes, dejó que los equipos de poda de árboles en su patio trasero terminaran de cortar las ramas.
Poco después se fue de casa. Pero su familia no sabía que los podadores dejaron algo atrás.
“Entonces mi marido volvió a casa y dejó salir a los perros. Vio que la puerta estaba cerrada y supo que se habían ido y no tenía idea de que había un cable con corriente en la parte trasera de nuestro jardín, así que lanzó la pelota y el perro quedó prendido en el cable”, dijo.
El propietario compartió el video con el noticiario Action News 5 que muestra cuando los equipos estaban trabajando.
“Saltaron, echaba humo. Sabían que había estallado y, según ellos, lo informaron a MLGW”, dijo.
En una declaración, MLGW dijo en parte que: “Estamos conscientes del desafortunado incidente del martes que resultó en la pérdida de la querida mascota de un propietario después de que nuestro proveedor contratado, ABC Professional Tree Service, derribara accidentalmente un cable con corriente. MLGW ordenó una parada de seguridad con los equipos de ABC a las 7:30 a. m. del miércoles para reforzar las reglas de seguridad existentes y garantizar que se sigan los procedimientos para evitar incidentes de esta naturaleza en el futuro”.
Es algo que este propietario exige que se evalúe antes de que ocurra otra víctima.
“Mi marido podría haber muerto, yo podría haber muerto. He solicitado que no regresen a nuestra propiedad”, dijo la propietaria. “La gente debe tener cuidado cuando estos proveedores externos están en su patio trasero y no los conoce ni los contrató, no conoce su nivel de habilidad y necesita vigilarlos. Quiero decir que esto le podría pasar a cualquiera”.
MLGW dice que ABC está llevando a cabo una investigación completa sobre el asunto.
Mientras tanto, MLGW dijo que seguirá utilizando el proveedor de servicios de árboles.
