El estudio de un idioma extranjero es sumamente importante. No sólo te permite comunicarte con otros, sino que también te abre las puertas para oportunidades de trabajo, te ayuda con tu escritura (hasta en tu lengua materna) y crea nuevas posibilidades para viajar. También es importante perfeccionar tu habilidad en un idioma aun si no puedes encontrar hablantes nativos fácilmente.
Los eventos multiculturales son un buen modo de fortalecer tu dominio de un idioma. El Departamento de Idiomas Mundiales de la Universidad de Memphis alberga la Feria de Idiomas Extranjeros (Foreign Language Fair), un evento anual que anima a los estudiantes a perseguir la fluidez en sus idiomas extranjeros a través de juegos, concursos y eventos culturales varios. La feria ofrece actividades que desafían las habilidades lingüísticas, artísticas y culturales de los estudiantes, como competiciones de arte, exámenes de vocabulario, recitado de poesía, un concurso cultural y más. Realmente disfruto de los diferentes tipos de eventos en la feria cada año y aprecio la oportunidad de avanzar hacia la fluidez en los idiomas extranjeros.
La feria este año ocurre el primero de abril, así que aunque no estés compitiendo, pasa para ver un evento.

The study of a foreign language is extremely important. Not only does it allow you to communicate with others, it also opens doors to job opportunities, helps with your writing (even in your native language), and creates new possibilities for travel in the future. It’s also essential to hone your language skills even if you can’t readily find other native speakers.
Due to the importance and benefit of studying a foreign language, multicultural events are a great way to further your mastery of a language. The U of M Department of World Languages and Literature hosts the annual Foreign Language Fair, an event that encourages students to push themselves in the pursuit of foreign language fluency through multiple contests and cultural events. The fair offers activities that challenge students’ linguistic, artistic, and cultural skills in their foreign language, such as art competitions, vocabulary exams, poetry recitations, a cultural bowl, and more. I truly enjoy the different types of events at the language fair every year and appreciate the opportunity to strive towards fluency in other foreign languages.
This year’s fair is held April 1st, so even for those not competing, drop in and stay for an event!
