2 MPD Cruisers Hit By SUV After Driver Falls Asleep, Police Say

Memphis Police release new details after two cruisers were involved in a crash.
Officers responded to Poplar Avenue, just west of S. Century Street, for an accident involving a police cruiser just before 2:30 a.m.
A 2017 Ford Escape, was traveling westbound Poplar, struck with its’ front, the rear of an MPD cruiser and the left side of another MPD cruiser, a report read.
That driver was taken to Baptist East Hospital in non-critical condition with minor back pains and facial lacerations.
Both officers were taken to Baptist East Hospital in non-critical condition.
According to the report, there were no witnesses.
The driver of Ford Escape was issued citations for failure to devote full attention and financial responsibility of the law, and he will have to appear in court on Aug. 26, according to police.
All cars were towed from the scene and the cruisers have been taken out of service.
