High School Student Arrested For Attacking Teacher

COVINGTON, TN (LPL/WMC) — Police say a 14-year-old was arrested for assault after an altercation at Covington High School.
Police were called just before 11:30 a.m. Wednesday when a student was making threats and cursing in the hallway after an administrative hearing with his parents and administrators.
Police say a teacher was assisting the boy’s mother and was assaulted by the student.
The student threatened to shoot officers with a handgun and assault rifle.
However, police say he never had a weapon at any time.
The School Resource Officer came to assist and, after being threated, used his Taser to detain the student.
The 14-year-old was arrested, while the teacher was treated for injuries to their arm and elbow.
The student is being petitioned to Tipton County Juvenile Court on charges of disorderly conduct, assault, assault of a police officer, resisting arrest and threat of mass violence on school property.
The student was released to his parent pending arraignment in Juvenile Court this week.
“This was a volatile incident that could have easily ended with more injuries to those involved if our SRO had not intervened. We are continuing to monitor the teacher who was injured and pray for his total recovery. I am thankful the student was quickly detained, and the school activities returned to normal,” Police Chief Donna Turner said.

El estudiante está siendo presentado ante el Tribunal de Menores del Condado de Tipton por cargos de alteración del orden público, agresión, agresión a un oficial de policía, resistencia al arresto y amenaza de violencia masiva en propiedad escolar.
El estudiante fue entregado a sus padres en espera de la lectura de cargos en el Tribunal de Menores esta semana.
“Este fue un incidente volátil que fácilmente podría haber terminado con más lesiones para los involucrados si nuestro personal no hubiera intervenido. Seguimos monitoreando al maestro que resultó herido y orando por su total recuperación. Estoy agradecida de que el estudiante fue detenido rápidamente y las actividades escolares volvieron a la normalidad”, dijo la jefa de policía Donna Turner.
