Beijing, Sep 19 (EFE).- At least eight passengers have lost their lives while seven remain missing after a boat capsizes in a river in a south China province, official Xinhua news agency reported on Sunday.
The accident took place in the southern province of Guizhou on Saturday on the Zangke River, near the city of Liupanshui.
The news agency citing officials said searchers rescued 39 passengers.
Eight of the passengers died after the boat, in which they were traveling, overturned in the river, Xinhua said.
The news agency said the boat had the capacity to carry a maximum of 40 passengers.
The rescue operation for the missing seven passengers was underway.
The authorities have begun an investigation into the accident and check the exact number of passengers traveling in the boat. EFE
