Teacher Shocked by Stun Gun Student Brought to Protect Against Bullying

MEMPHIS, TN (FOX 13 News) — Memphis Police were called to a Memphis elementary school Monday when a teacher was accidentally shocked by a stun gun.
According to the MPD incident report, the music teacher at Sherwood Elementary told officers she saw one of her students “go after one of his classmates” with what she thought was a flashlight.
The teacher asked the student to give her the object, and as he gave it to her, “she felt a shock go through her arm, causing it to go numb.”
It was actually a stun gun the student brought to school, the report said.
Officers spoke with the student, who told them that another boy was hitting him with a musical instrument, so he took out the stun gun and showed it to him.
The student told officers the teacher asked for the stun gun, and as he was handing it to her, he “accidentally shocked her with it.”
The student said he had been bullied by the other student in the past but couldn’t tell officers when the bullying started.
According to the police report, the teacher told officers the incident was not intentional but accidental.
The student was issued a juvenile summons for carrying a weapon on school property.
The stun gun was taken to 201 Poplar and tagged.
FOX13 reached out to Memphis-Shelby County Schools (MSCS) for more information.
MSCS Media Relations sent the following statement:
We are aware of an incident at Sherwood Middle School involving a teacher and student. The MSCS Security team and school admin followed District protocols and procedures and confiscated a weapon from a student. At this time, this is an ongoing investigation and appropriate disciplinary action will be taken as we continue to prioritize safety.

Según el informe policial, el maestro les dijo a los oficiales que el incidente no fue intencional sino accidental.
El estudiante recibió una citación juvenil por portar un arma en propiedad escolar.
La pistola paralizante fue llevada al domicilio 201 Poplar y etiquetada.
