Barty, Gauff advance to 4th round at Wimbledon

London, Jul 3 (EFE).- Australia’s Ashleigh Barty reached the fourth round at Wimbledon with a hard-fought 6-3, 7-5 victory Saturday against Katerina Siniakova.

“It was a hell of a match right from the first point,” the world No. 1 said after getting past the Czech player. “Katerina brought an incredible level.”

“I’m very privileged to be in the second week of Wimbledon and it’ll be another great challenge,” Barty said, reflecting on her upcoming second appearance in the tournament’s fourth round.

Next up for Barty is the Czech Republic’s Barbora Krejcikova, who prevailed 7-6, 3-6, 7-5 Saturday against Anastasija Sevastova of Latvia.

The matchup will feature the 2019 French Open winner – Barty – against this year’s champion.

Coco Gauff, the youngest player in the Women’s Tennis Association top 100, beat Slovenia’s Kaja Juvan 6-3, 6-3 to secure her spot in the fourth round, where the 17-year-old American will battle Angelique Kerber of Germany.

Spain’s Paula Badosa, who reached the quarterfinals at Roland Garros, is through to the fourth round at Wimbledon for the first time in her career after battling back against Magda Linette of Poland to win 5-7, 6-2, 6-4.

The 23-year-old Spaniard’s opponent in the round of 16 will be the Czech Republic’s Karolina Muchova, who defeated Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova 7-5, 6-3 Saturday. EFE
