London, Jul 1 (EFE).- Australia’s Ashleigh Barty and American Cori Gauff on Thursday booked their places in the 3rd round of Wimbledon.
World number one Barty defeated Russian Anna Blinkova 6-4, 6-3 while Gauff, seeded 20th, beat Blinkova’s compatriot Elena Vesnina by the same score.
Barty, who beat Carla Suárez in the previous round, returned to Centre Court to secure a 3rd round place for the third time in a row.
She faces Czech Katerina Siniakova in the next round, an opponent she has never played.
Gauff moves on to the next round hoping to repeat her spectacular run in 2019, when she reached the last 16 when she was only 15-years-old.
She will play Slovenia’s Kaja Kuvan or Clara Burel of France. EFE
