Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic will be safe, says IOC official

Geneva, Jan 12 (EFE).- The Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics will be safe and follow a strict health protocol including daily PCR tests for the stakeholders, the International Olympic Committee said on Wednesday amid coronavirus outbreaks that have recently hit the host.

These outbreaks will not affect the athletes, who will be in an Olympic bubble, Pierre Ducrey, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Olympic Games Operations Director, said during a presser.

The stakeholders will undergo PCR tests on a daily basis, while health protocols are to be abided during the event, which will get underway on 4 February, he added.

Ducrey, however, called on teams and organizers to be cautious ahead of the Olympic event as the athletes who test positive for Covid-19 will not be able to compete until they produce two negative PCR tests with a difference of 24 hours. EFE
