Brazil’s Italo Ferreira wins first Olympics gold in surfing

Tokyo, Jul 27 (EFE).- Brazil’s Italo Ferreira became the first ever gold medalist in surfing at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, defeating Japan’s Kanoa Igarashi on Tuesday.

Ferreira obtained a score of 15.14 against Igarashi’s 6.60 in the gold medal match at the Tsurigasaki beach in the Japanese capital.

The Australian Owen Wright secured the bronze medal, getting the better of world number one from Brazil, Gabriel Medina, in the competition for the third place.

Ferreira’s medal is also the first gold for Brazil in Tokyo 2020. EFE
