Dozens killed in Russian attack in Ukraine’s Donetsk region

(Update 2: updates death toll) Kyiv, Jul 11 (EFE).- The death toll from a Russian attack on the town of Chasiv Yar in eastern Ukraine’s Donetsk region has risen to 26, Ukrainian authorities said Monday. Ukrainian state emergency services said that another nine people had been rescued from under the rubble of a five-story apartment building that was wrecked in the attack on Sunday. In his regular overnight address on Telegram, Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that two high-rise buildings in the city were destroyed in the Russian missile strike. Zelenskyy added that search and rescue teams were working to save those still trapped under the rubble. “Unfortunately the number of victims is not the final number,” he said. The president also questioned the alleged “operational pause” by Russia in the Donbas region, where Donetsk is located, and other parts of Ukraine over the past week. “Thirty-four air strikes by Russian aircraft over the past day is an answer to all those who came up with this ‘pause,'” he said, urging Ukrainians to remain united. “We can withstand this war only together.” EFE int-egw-rml/smq/mp
