Memphis in May Cancels Fall Events

MEMPHIS, TN (The Daily Memphian) — Memphis in May announced Thursday, June 18, it’s canceling the major events previously postponed to this fall because of COVID-19.
The festival’s board of directors voted to cancel the 2020 Beale Street Music Festival and World Championship Barbecue Cooking Contest because of continued uncertainty about the coronavirus pandemic.
The announcement marked the second consecutive day that a major event for the city was canceled due to concerns over the pandemic. On Wednesday, officials with the Southern Heritage Classic announced the annual game between Tennessee State and Jackson State will not be held, along with the events surrounding the weekend.
The Southern Heritage Classic events can draw as many as 75,000 to the city for the weekend, which was scheduled for Sept. 11 and 12 this year.
