British PM meets Zelenskyy in Kyiv

Kyiv, Nov 19 (EFE).- British prime minister Rishi Sunak met with Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Kyiv on Saturday for his first trip to Ukraine since taking office on Oct. 25.

In a video on his Twitter account, Sunak can be seen greeting political and military representatives after being welcomed by Zelenskyy.

“Britain knows what it means to fight for freedom. We are with you all the way,” read the caption, which was written in both English and Ukrainian.

Zelenskyy took to Telegram to say that the two countries had been “the strongest of allies” since “the first days of the war.”

“During today’s meeting, we discussed the most important issues both for our countries and for global security.

“Together we are stronger and we will achieve the desired results,” he said.

As the second largest donor behind the United States, the UK has committed 2.3 billion pounds ($2.73 bln) in military assistance to Ukraine and plans to maintain it in 2023, in addition to humanitarian aid. EFE
